We had the good fortune of connecting with Amanda Beat and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Amanda, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Ever since I was a child I have always wanted to own my own business, but it wasn’t until I started working in insurance that I knew exactly what business I wanted to own. In 2011 I started working at Allstate and fell in love with insurance (weird to most, I know)!! Not only do I understand insurance, but I am also pretty fantastic at selling insurance, so why not own a business that I absolutely love doing everyday? My thought process started when I considered buying an office or two from the first agent I worked for at Allstate, but after almost 7 years of working there, I decided that was NOT at all the direction I wanted to go for the agency that I wanted to own. Owning part of a franchise or being told what to do by a captive agency was not at all what I was looking to do. About a month before I left Allstate, I was approached by Goosehead Insurance to start a Franchise and decided to go and work for a local agent for a few short months before deciding that was definitely not what I wanted either. Then I met another local business owner of a small independent insurance agency that she started about 1 year prior so I decided to help them grow on an independent contractor basis. After a few short months of doing this, I knew instantly that this was the type of agency I was meant to run! I loved everything about it and knew that I could run my own business in a much better way and implement things in such a way that we would be super successful one day!!! I would be able to set things up correctly, hire the best of the best, get appointed with the best insurance carriers and take care of my clients exactly how I wanted to. SO, in January 2020 I took the leap and started Beat Insurance Services, LLC. Here we are in our 2nd year and absolutely thriving.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
In the many years of being an agent and working for others I have found that what really sets our agency apart from the thousands of other insurance agencies is that we really take the time to listen to our clients and then help them with exactly what they need. We are not about the quick sale or lowest price, we genuinely want the best for our clients. About 90 percent of our business comes from referrals which is a huge accomplishment and basically means that our business is ran mostly off of happy clients referring others to us!! We partner with loan officers and realtors across Texas to help their most precious clients with the most suitable home policy for when they close on new homes and are always helping our friends and family who are looking to protect their most important assets.
Focusing on getting all lines of business (bunding home, auto, umbrella and life) is not only standard practice here, but is also the best thing for the client so they can have one professional as their trusted advisor for everything verses multiple people telling them different things!
We all take insurance seriously but also have fun with it as well which is another reason why I think our first years goals were tripled in only 5 months! We protect each and everyone of our clients as though they our own home, auto and so on to make sure that when/if the worst happens, they are 100% protected. We do not shop insurance rates on price alone, like some other competitors do, as this only short changes the client in the end. Striving to do the best by the client plus establish a genuine relationship with the client is really the key to a prosperous business and we are definitely doing that here at Beat Insurance Services.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would absolutely plan a fun and relaxing week for anyone visiting the Fort Worth area. The metroplex has SO much to do, that when my friends do come visit, we run out of time, before things to do. Usually we will first take them to the Stockyards for a fun and different experience, followed quickly by eating out at all the yummy places that are literally, EVERYWHERE. I would also take them to experience Billy Bobs, a Texas Rangers game followed by a trip to Texas Live, Jerry’s stadium and Six Flags. There is just entirely do much to do in one week, which is why they usually end up coming back year after year. Most of our visitors will come and/or end up moving here because they fall in love with this state.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My amazing success would not be half of what it was without the help of SO many awesome people along the way. I could go on and on about them but, my husband, parents are at the top of the list, for sure. They have undoubtable pushed me to be the best me I possibly can. They tell me to do the stuff everyday that I am either scared of doing or don’t want to do, which takes me places I was needing to go. They also supports me and all my dreams, which helps me turn those dreams into reality! Next and equally important, are my children. They are really the reason I do everything. I hope to leave them the legacy I have worked so hard for. They continuously push me to no end. They encourage, support and push me to the next level. A few other people I owe a shoutout, would be the 3 agents I was lucky enough to work for and learn from. They taught me a lot about insurance, running an agency and interacting with clients that it really enabled me to get to the point that I am at now.
